Regulation & Compliance

How this site meets adult-content rules in the jurisdictions we serve.

Tesro is an editorial site whose subject matter, the classical Indian treatise known as the Kama Sutra, is intended for an adult readership. This page sets out, in plain English, the regulatory framework within which we operate and the standards to which we hold ourselves. Readers who would like to know who the publishers and operators of the site are will find that information on a separate page.

Age of readership

Access to Tesro is intended for readers aged eighteen (18) years or older, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction if that is higher. Each page carries an adult-content meta flag (<meta name="rating" content="adult">) so that parental-control software, search engines and content classifiers can identify the site correctly. Our Terms of Use confirm the same requirement in contract form.

Content classification — cultural, non-graphic

Although Tesro is classified as adult, the register of the material is cultural and historical, and editorial in register rather than graphic. We describe intimate positions and practices at the level a mainstream wellness publication or a serious cultural essay would use. We do not publish sexually explicit images, illustrated positions, or pornographic prose. Our Editorial Standards page describes the register in detail.

Applicable law. United Kingdom

The site is operated from the United Kingdom. The main pieces of applicable UK legislation are:

  • Online Safety Act 2023, sets out duties for services likely to be accessed by children, including a general duty of care and a specific duty to prevent children from encountering pornographic content. Because Tesro is cultural rather than pornographic, our exposure under the Act is limited, but we treat the underlying principles as guidance for our editorial choices.
  • Obscene Publications Act 1959 (as amended), the long-standing baseline for what may lawfully be published in England and Wales. Our editorial register is well within the ordinary tolerances of the Act.
  • Data Protection Act 2018 / UK GDPR — governs the personal data of our readers. See our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

Applicable law. European Union

For readers in the European Union, the site operates in accordance with:

  • Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065), sets out transparency, notice-and-action and complaints obligations for online services. Our Corrections Policy and Contact page provide the required routes for complaints and corrections.
  • General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), governs the handling of personal data of EU readers. See our Privacy Policy.

Applicable law — United States

For readers in the United States, the site is a passive publisher of editorial content within the ordinary meaning of the First Amendment. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act generally protects online publishers from liability for lawful third-party content; however, Tesro does not host third-party content, all editorial material is produced by our own team, described on the our editorial pages page. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is not applicable, because the site is not directed at children.

Self-regulation and voluntary standards

Beyond the letter of the law, Tesro observes several voluntary standards for adult and editorial content:

  • a consistent adult-content flag in every page's metadata;
  • a clear separation of editorial content from any commercial activity (we do not sell products or run advertising);
  • a documented editorial process for accuracy and correction (see Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy);
  • public identification of the editorial team on the our editorial pages page.
